Campground is a one-man murder-mystery stage comedy, written and performed by Nelson-based Lucas Myers. In this production, Myers brings to the forefront his trademark brand of observational humor and brilliant character work as he examines that peculiar world-within-a-world one can only find in a campground.
The story goes like this: when a young man goes missing from a provincial campground while he’s trying to discover himself on a camping trip to a provincial park, foul play is suspected. Despite an overwhelming lack of evidence from his facebook posts and a video he sent from his cell phone, an overeager detective puts the finger on four possible suspects. There are questions that need answers: was there foul play? – did someone remember to bring the toilet paper and the potato salad?
Lucas Myers who was named, in 2012, as Nelson BC’s cultural ambassador, has been a Nelson resident since the age of 8, with a 7-year absence to study theatre at the National Theatre School in Montreal and the Saratoga International Theatre Institute in New York.
The actor has been a stage presence since his teens. He regularly presents his hilarious one-man shows to sold-out crowds and standing ovations.
The Nelson Star reported local murder mystery writer, Deryn Collier as saying, “I always go to Lucas’ shows. He’s so talented, and my husband loves him too, so it’s something we can enjoy together. It’s the sort of situation where your cheeks hurt the next day from laughing so hard.”
