Columbia Valley Dining Guide
Food and drink choices are almost unlimited in the Columbia Valley BC. Do you prefer authentic old world European cuisine? Or Italian, Chinese, Thai, sushi? How about an extraordinarily good Canadian hamburger with hot, crispy fries on the side? Will it be eat-in or take-out tonight? You can get everything here in the valley’s supermarkets, specialty stores, restaurants and farmers markets.
Are you a bit fuzzy in the mornings? Appetite just not there? Stop in at a bakery-cafe down the street for a cup or two of delicious, locally-roasted coffee and a muffin still warm from the oven.
If a hearty breakfast is your morning fare, bring home a dozen fresh eggs and a loaf of artisan bread from the farmers market. Add some local jams and jellies and some of that same delicious coffee. Sounds like it’s just the thing to get the day started in style!
On Sunday mornings, many of the local resorts have wonderful brunch buffets that dazzle the eye, and the food and drink will definitely satisfy the palate.
Lunch at a delightful outdoor cafe or deli might appeal when you are browsing the art galleries or quaint boutiques. Or why not treat the kids to lunch at their favorite fast food place?
For a nutritious, light lunch, you don’t have to sacrifice good taste for good health – there are excellent cafes in the Columbia Valley, serving home-cooked, natural foods.
It’s easy to stop in at a local supermarket and grab some sliced ham with all the fixings and a warm baguette and make lunch just the way you like it, right in your own kitchen at the cabin or condo. Or you can pack a picnic lunch and take the kids to the beach to spend the day.

Later, you may dress up and go out on the town for elegant dining. There are many upscale eating establishments where you can sit back and listen to a live music ensemble while you enjoy your meal. You might choose dinner on a patio overlooking a beautiful lake where you can watch the boats playing in the sparkling water as the sun sinks on the horizon.
Perhaps you’d like to gaze out at a breathtaking view of the mountains beyond a stretch of golf-course green. How about an elegant meal, beautifully prepared and served in an historic old house? Or, in winter, you could sit by a crackling fire in a mountain lodge while you sip an apres-ski drink or enjoy hearty northern cuisine as you watch the skiers on the slopes.
There’s a band playing at one of the local pubs and you decide to go check it out. Great music, friendly people and you try a locally-brewed beer or an award-winning local wine. On the way home, stop at a cold beer and wine store and pick up a six-pack to take back with you.
