Columbia Valley & East Kootenay
One of the most popular outdoor venues in the Columbia Valley is Kinsmen Park, a beautifully manicured green space on the shores of Lake Windermere inInvermere.
The park features:
- tall shade trees
- a sandy beach
- children’s playground
- clean washrooms with wheelchair access
- picnic tables
- plenty of parking space
Kinsmen Park (aka Kinsmen Beach) is most often the meeting place of the residents and visitors who come together to celebrate such events as Summerlude, the Snowflake Festival, the annual Lake Windermere Regatta, Canada Day Celebrations, family celebrations, etc. And in the winter, when the lake is an enormous sheet of ice, the Lake Windermere Whiteway, famed for being the longest skating track in the world, is host to the Bonspiel-on-the-Lake, the annual Pond Hockey tournament, the Fishing Derby and the Snow Golf event.
The beauty of the Kinsmen Park setting makes it a favorite backdrop for wedding pictures too. The Pynelogs Cultural Centre’s Pynelogs Cafe serves light lunches and desserts during the summer months. Birthday lunches and afternoon teas become extra special events when you can sit outdoors on the deck and watch the boats bobbing in the lake while you enjoy the excellent food.
Also in the park is the re-located and refurbished old CPR Lodge, a historic building that was originally the main lodge of the CPR workers’ camp in Invermere. The venue is ideal for small weddings, community meetings as well as birthday and retirement celebrations.
