The Columbia Valley Skating Club is a non-profit society, financially assisted by grants from the Province of British Columbia, enabling them to provide skating lessons for a wide variety of children and adults throughout the Columbia Valley at very affordable prices.

The club’s coaches have many levels of coaching and experience that equip them to tutor all levels of students, from beginners to advanced skaters and hockey players as well. Their goal is to ” help skaters build confidence and obtain the skills they need to improve on the ice.” (from their website)

Pre-CanSkate – a beginner learn-to-skate program for skaters aged 2-4. Children learn the very basic skating skills. Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:00 pm,

CanSkate –  a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Based on Skate Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles, this program centers on physical literacy and the fundamental skills needed to take part in any ice sport or to skate as a recreational activity. Run by nationally-certified coaches. These sessions run Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00-4:45 pm.

Junior StarSkate – the bridge program into the StarSkate program. It introduces the skaters to the busy StarSkate session with the assistance of a coach. This program includes two 60-minute group lessons from 4:45-5:45 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, plus time for the the skaters to learn to work on their own.

StarSkate – offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Group and/or private lessons. Students have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Those  who have mastered figure skating skills in Starskate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.

CanPowerSkate – an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. This is an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams and is a  Skill award program. This session runs on Fridays from 1:30-2:30 pm.

The Columbia Valley Skating Club has its home in the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena in Invermere.
