Sam Steele Days, which takes place every year on the 3rd weekend in June, marks the occasion when the Cranbrook community celebrates their hero, Superintendent Sam Steele, head of D-Division of the North-West Mounted Police who marched to Kootenay Post in 1887, creating a law-enforcement presence in the area where Cranbrook is today.

Cranbrook folks do the occasion up in grand style with the biggest party around and everyone gets involved. The individual activities, many of which are FREE,  take place in various locations around the city. There’s always so much to see and do that there just isn’t enough time to take everything in but there’s definitely something to put a smile on every face.

Sam Steele Days features loads of amazing, fun-filled events like the food, market, an art exhibit, pancake breakfasts, BBQs, Beer Gardens, live music, demonstrations, an all-day Slow Pitch ball game, youth soccer tournament, ‘Electric Steele’ concert, a Car Show and so much more.

The crowning glory, of course, as usual, will be the Sam Steele Days Parade on Saturday, with floats, costumes, horses & wagons, antique and classic cars and marching bands. And prizes for the best parade entries.
