The public is invited to take a guided Field Tour with the East Kootenay Invasive Species Council (EKISC) to celebrate the wonderful successes that are occuring in the valley, thanks to the collaborative efforts of everyone who has been involved in the fight to stop the spread of invasive species in our communities between Skookumchuk and Radium Hot Springs.

At each stop there will be a guest speaker with a presentation about the significance and history of the specific area, impacts of invasive species on it, and the hope for the future. The speakers will represent some of the organizations which have worked with us in our efforts – the Nature Conservancy of Canada, The Nature Trust of BC, Wildsight, Lake Windermere Ambassadors and others. They will share information such as:

  • Early Detection/Rapid Response (EDRR) species
  • Aquatic invasive species – their impact and how we monitor
  • Collaborations efforts on conservation properties

The tour will begin in Cranbrook at 9 AM where tour-goers will meet at the Tamarack Centre and travel to view the progress of the work in the Skookumchuk area. Many participants who reside north of Cranbrook will prefer to join the group at the Columbia Lake viewpoint along the highway north of Skookumchuk at 10 AM.

Tickets

The cost of tickets includes lunch, snacks and transportation by bus. Call 1-888-553-5472 or send us an email at: info@ekisc.com to RSVP.
