Cirque Alphonse’s ‘Timber’ a one-of-a-kind performance

Apr 2, 2016 7:30 pm

| $20 - $35

Cirque Alfonse is a young circus company, originally started in 2005 by a family of two sisters, a half-brother and their father from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Quebec. Each of the founding members has worked with some of the most illustrious ‘nouveau cirque’ companies in the world. Their first show, ‘La Brunante’, in 2006 was their initial foray into bringing audiences a taste of something very different.

After ‘La Brunante’, the members of the company parted ways for a few years, each pursuing a solo career. They gained experience with Montreal’s ‘Les 7 Doigts de la Main’, the ‘Cirque du Soleil’, Cirkus Cirkor of Sweden and ‘Bouge de la’, the Montreal dance company.

They reunited in 2010 to create Cirque Alphonse which has been astounding audiences ever since. Today, their team has evolved to consist of professional acrobats, a professional dancer, an ex-skiing champion and three talented and versatile musicians. Seamlessly and skilfully, they blend the arts and techniques of the circus with the homey flavor of traditional Quebec folklore.

It’s the name of their show and it takes you off the beaten path and on a journey into the forests of Quebec. You will experience the life of the lumberjack who has lived and worked there for the entire history of the forestry industry. You can almost smell the fresh-cut pine logs, mingled with the sweat of the workers, as they jive to traditional French-Canadian folk music and perform incredible feats of strength and agility.

The creators of Timber!, inspired by the forests on their family farm, researched to find raw materials of the forest that could replace the usual circus equipment. In doing so, they have managed to create the authentic mood of a traditional logging camp.

Cirque Alphonse is electrifying entertainment – great family fare and a one-of-a-kind experience. We recommend you mark the date on your calendar and plan to be here.
