Christmas Tree disposal in East Kootenay communities

Jan 2, 2018 - Jan 7, 2018

Pine cone

Oftentimes, Christmas tree disposal after the holidays are over is a huge headache. What does a person do with a tree that looks pretty tired when all the decorations are put away for another year? Some of the East Kootenay communities have a plan to help you with that …..

Cranbrook – The 4th Cranbrook Scouts and Cranbrook Girl Guides Annual Christmas Tree pickup will be on Saturday, January 6th, 2018. Please have trees in front of your house by 9am on Saturday.

Fernie – Various community groups are hosting the annual “Fernie on Fire” fundraiser and tree burning event!  Bring your tree to the huge bonfire or drop it off just outside of Public Works Yards between January 2 and January 6.  Watch for signage outside the Public Works Yard directing you to the designated drop off spot. If this is just not possible, Fernie Fire Rescue will pick it at the curb on January 7 starting at 8am (please don’t leave your tree on the curb before then).

Kimberley – The City of Kimberley picks up used christmas trees from the curb on garbage collection days from January 15 to 19. If you would prefer, you may take your tree to the nearby transfer station.

Invermere – The Kinsmen is once again having a christmas tree pickup on Saturday, January 6 if you put it outside the night before. Although the pick-up is FREE, this is a fundraiser for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation so a donation would be greatly appreciated.

Golden – The CSRD (Columbia Shuswap Regional District) have a FREE christmas tree disposal (recycling) program from December 27, 2017 at 8 am to January 15, 2018  at 4 pm at the district landfill and transfer station. Trees must be non-artificial and free of decorations and tinsel.
