Fernie Alpine Resort
Fernie Alpine Resort is right up there in the list of iconic ski resorts in Canada. One of the reasons why (in a country that is already known for having some of the best ski resorts in the world) is that its snowdumps are the stuff of legends — the average annual snowfall is 875 centimetres (28.7 ft) of the best powder anywhere, and some years it’s been as high as 1,125 cm (37 ft). That’s enough to cover a 3-story building!
Fernie Alpine Resort is just 3 miles from the town of Fernie and is also close to the Alberta border. Location alone would be enough to ensure its popularity with skiers, boarders and cross-country skiers, but there’s so much more. Besides all the snow, the resort has some great features:
- Access to more than 930 hectares (2,300 acres) of fabulously steep slopes
- A 1,082 m (3,550 ft) vertical rise
- Total of 142 runs
- It’s family-friendly with 30% beginners and 40% intermediate runs.
- 25% advanced runs
- 5% extreme
- 5 alpine bowls
- plenty of glades and chutes for tree skiing
- Open runs are groomed nightly.
- 14 km of groomed and track-set trails for Nordic skiers
- Telus Winter Sports School
- On site at Fernie Alpine Resort are the Sports Alpine Boutique, the Rental Shop, the Daylodge Cafeteria, the Griz Bar and Kelsey’s Bar and Grill.
