Symphony of the Kootenays presents ‘Classical Fantasy’
Apr 7, 2018 7:30 pm
Event Navigation
‘Classical Fantasy’ is the name of the Symphony of the Rockies’ spring concert at the Key City Theatre in Cranbrook.
The “Father of the Symphony” Joseph Haydn’s 100th (!) symphony perfectly shows off his skill as a composer and the spirit of the classical musical era. This is book-ended by two differing approaches to Russian stormy weather; Tchaikovsky’s passionate ode to Shakespeare’s doomed lovers, and Rachmaninov’s virtuoso showpiece for himself, performed with flair by Calgary’s Han Ding
Program:
Petr Tchaikovsky – Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture
F.J. Haydn – Symphony #100 “Military”
Sergei Rachmaninov – Piano Concerto #1
Soloist: Han Ding. To learn more about Han Ding, visit his comprehensive website at: https://handingonline.com/home
