BC Day Celebration at Ft. Steele
Jul 31, 2016 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
The BC Day celebration at Fort Steele Heritage Town is an annual event on the mid-summer long weekend. The day’s event line-up will feature something to suit every member of the family.
An all-new Live Theatre Production will be playing in our air-conditioned Wildhorse Theatre, so come on in – beat the heat and enjoy a rompin’ good comedy!
Hop on the wagon and take a ride to the City Bakery for all kinds of tasty, home-made treats, fresh from the brick oven.
And there’s more! Live entertainment and demonstrations all throughout the day too.
Mark the date on your calendar and plan to bring the family to the Fort Steele’s BC Day celebration.
Did You Know?
*** British Columbia was almost named New Caledonia? The idea was discarded, though, because it was already a name being used in the South Pacific. The name ‘British Columbia’ came from the Columbia River and also the south part of the colony at that time bore the name. It became official by proclamation in 1858.
*** British Columbia has several provincial symbols – some you may already know like the provincial flag and the provincial coat of arms, but there are some surprises in the list. Each provincial symbol has an interesting story to tell about why it was chosen.
- Provincial Bird – Stellar Jay
- Provincial Animal – Spirit Bear
- Provincial Flower – Pacific Dogwood
- Provincial Mineral – Jade
- Provincial Tree – Western Red Cedar
- Provincial Tartan – listed in the Scottish Register of Tartans
