The Sparwood Leisure Centre sits on approximately 11.2 hectares (27.5 acres) of land which includes three contiguous park areas — Heritage Park at the north end, the Leisure Centre Grounds in the middle, and Lions Park to the south. It is centrally located between a residential area and the railway that runs along the Elk River.

Presently, there are a wetland, a bike park, 2 bocce courts, 8 horseshoe pits, 2 slopitch diamonds, a running track, soccer field, basketball court, playground, spray park, washrooms, skate park, tennis courts, volleyball court, and informal picnic areas with play equipment.

The Sparwood Leisure Centre facility houses an arena, curling rink, fitness room, an all-season indoor pool (handicapped accessible), whirlpool, sauna, two racquetball – wallyball and squash courts, and a community hall.

The District offers a variety of leisure time programs which range from dance and fitness to skating, gymnastics and swimming. Recreational and cultural programs at the facility are sponsored by community groups throughout the year.

The arena is the home of the Sparwood Skating Club, Elk Valley Minor Hockey, Men’s and Ladies Hockey Teams, Public Skating and Shinny Hockey. During the summer it is the venue for indoor events such as Coal Miner Days, Canada Day Celebrations, Roller Derby Bouts, and much more!
