The East Kootenay is an area located in the south-east corner of British Columbia, usually taken as including the valleys of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers and from Golden to the US border.
The population of the East Kootenay (as of 2016) is 60,439, with that of:
- Rural Areas – 15,896
- Municipalities – 43,839
- First Nations – 704
The area is governed by the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) which provides services, protects the health and safety of its residents and protects the environment.
