The Cranbrook Archives, Museum and Landmark Foundation, or the CAMAL Foundation was established on Heritage Day in 1976 by a group of heritage and culturally minded citizens. It is a registered B.C. Society and a Canadian Charitable Organization. The Foundation established the Cranbrook Railway Museum in 1976. The museum’s name was changed in 1993 to the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel and to the Cranbrook History Centre in 2015.

The Foundation’s mandate includes the research, preservation, and restoration of heritage pertaining to the history of Cranbrook and the Canadian Pacific railway. This includes the acquisition of artifacts and archival records significant to Cranbrook and area and to railroad development and travel in Canada.
