Ursus & Us: Bear Awareness Day in Invermere

Ursus and Us – It certainly seems that way sometimes! There’s no denying bears are a part of life in the Columbia Valley. Come on out to this FREE public day of speakers, displays and demonstrations about living safely in harmony with bears. Lots of fun kid activities, too.

Participating groups will include Wildsight Invermere, Wildsafe BC and Conservation Officer Service.

In case of bad weather, the Ursus and Us: Bear Awareness Day event will be held in the Invermere Community Hall.

Here’s the schedule:

  • Bear Day Opening
  • 11 am – ‘Bears and the Ktunaxa’  – Alfred Joseph,  Akisqnuk Elder
  • 11:30 am – ‘Bear Safety’  – Andrea Smillie, WildSafe BC
  • 12:00 pm – Bear Relocation Trailer Demo  – Greg Kruger, BC CO Services
  • 12:30 pm – Bear Spray Lesson/Demo – sign up at WildSafe BC table – Andrea Smillie, WildSmartBC
  • 1 pm – Kid’s Bear Story Read-along – Invermere Public Library
  • 1:30 pm – ‘Bear Safety’ – Andrea Smillie, WildSafeBC
  • 2 pm – Bear Relocation Trailer Demo – Greg Kruger, BC CO Services
  • 2:30 pm – Bear Spray Lesson/Demo – sign up at WildSafeBC table – Andrea Smillie, WildSMartBC
  • Bear Day Closing
