The Lakeside Event is 42 years old this summer (2018)! The annual Invermere event is known far and wide as Canada’s longest-running light aviation meet. This event is one of summer’s highlights in the Columbia Valley.
Can you believe it? For more than 4 decades, hang glider and para-glider pilots have tested their skills and plain old-fashioned good luck against each other as they fly off Mt. Swansea and soar above the Columbia Valley to descend to targets on the beach and in the water at James Chabot Provincial Park in Invermere BC. Those who make the target can win cash prizes.
Additional acrobatic para-gliding competitions above the lake keep up the Lakeside Event’s lively pace while the crowd of spectators goes wild with excitement.
It’s a grand show, to be sure! Bring chairs, blankets and refreshments and come down to the beach at James Chabot Provincial Park to cheer the pilots as they aim for the target to win big money!.
After the contest, it’s party time for pilots and their families, friends and spectators. There’s a live band and much fun is had by all!
