Cinefest film – “Trumbo”

Feb 23, 2016 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

| $5 - $14

The cast of this 2015 American biographical drama is star-studded, with Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, Louis C K, Elle Fanning, John Goodman and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Based on a biography by Bruce Alexander Cook, it is the story of brilliant screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, among the elite of Hollywood in the 1950s. He drew the contempt of the staunchly anti-Soviet entertainment industry for his outspoken support for organized labor and his membership in the Communist Party of the USA.As a result, Trumbo was subsequently blacklisted, betrayed, persecuted and imprisoned.

He ghost-wrote, his scripts won awards which he couldn’t claim and finally, during the JFK era, when he finally received his due praise from the film community. Trumbo then spoke out about how the Blacklist made victims of those who lost their livelihoods when they stood by their principles and also those who compromised their principles to save them.

This is a thought-provoking film about a controversial chapter in Hollywood’s history. The film is suitable for all ages.

There will be a cash bar, light refreshments, popcorn and other favorite theatre treats.
