SUMMARY:Windermere Valley Museum summer children's program 2017
DESCRIPTION:The Windermere Valley Museum summer children’s program is an annual summertime event\, especially suitable for children 6 to 10 years of age.\n\nThe weekly program runs every Tuesday\, July 11 to August 22\, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm and features a variety of age-related activities such as stories\, crafts\, fun adventures\, all of which combine learning with fun.\n\nThis year's theme is In The Rockies We Will Go and represents some of the activities that people would do in the mountains\, including the Rocky Mountains.\n\nWeekly Schedule\n\nJuly 11 - Hiking\nAs a common activity in the mountains we will explore the museum grounds in an effort to identify local flowers\, trees and animals found while hiking.\n\nJuly 18 - Archaeology\nThere is always evidence left behind when people stayed in an area. We will be learning how to see those signs and try excavating to see what was left in the mountains.\n\nJuly 25 - 150 years\nTo celebrate Canada\, activities will focus on the historical things that contributed to this nation. His Majesty's post\, provincial arms among others will be presented in a relay.\n\nAugust 1 - Mining\nThe first people to settle in this area were here for the minerals in the mountains. Join us and try your hand at gold panning and working on a chocolate chip mine.\n\nAugust 8 - Crime\nWith the firsts miners came unruly towns and villages in the mountains. Stealing\, double crossing\, murder  - which will it be? You solve the crime to put order back into the museum.\n\nAugust 15 - Pioneering\nTo make it through a life in the mountains\, one had to learn how to pioneer. Hauling water\, washing clothes and making butter are just some of the skills we will cover.\n\nAugust 22 - Commerce\nOur final weekn we host a BBQ with activities from the previous weeks. Make a good honest wage doing some good honest work\, then buy a hot dog and candy at the Notary for lunch in the mountains.\n\nRegistration\n\nThe Windermere Valley Museum Summer Children's Program has only 20 spaces each week so registration is a must. Drop-ins will be taken if there is space available. If you have to change a registration\, please let us know 24 hours before the activity; otherwise we may not receive the message.\n\nCost\n\nCost is by donation to cover the cost of materials and supplies.\n\nNote: We will be serving juice and snacks. Please let us know beforehand\, if there are any allergy concerns with your child.
