SUMMARY:Tulip Fever - Cinefest 2017 Fall Program
DESCRIPTION:Tulip Fever is the 7th in the Cinefest fall series of independent films\, brought to the Columbia Valley by CV Arts and the Toronto International Film Circuit.\n\nThe Story\n\nDrawing from an adapted screenplay by Sir Tom Stoppard\, director Justin Chadwick tells the tale of a torrid romance between a painter and a beautiful\, young married woman at the height of tulip mania in 17th century Amsterdam.\n\nWhen wealthy merchant Cornelis (Christoph Waltz) commissions a portrait of his wife Sophia (Alicia Vikander)\, an irrepressible passion begins to bloom between Sophia and the young artist (Dane DeHaan) hired to commit her beauty to canvas. As the star-crossed lovers base their future together on an investment in the tulip market\, tensions build and deceptions abound as the stakes grow higher.\n\nShot in muted palettes reminiscent of Vermeer\, the film features powerful performances from its two leads as well as an ominous turn from the Oscar-winning Waltz. Dame Judi Dench also brings her infamously dry wit to the role of a cheeky abbess. Tulip Fever interweaves the narrative of one of the most astonishing economic events in European history with a deeply intimate tale of desire\, betrayal and perilous ambition.\n\nUK/USA 2017\n107 minutes\nEnglish\nR\n\n(text courtesy of Columbia Valley Arts)\n\nTickets:\n\n \tonline at: https://columbiavalleyarts.com/CVARTS/contact-us/ \n \tat the door\n\nCost:\n\n \tAdults - $12\n \tCV Arts members - $11 (available only at the door)\n \tAsk for a Punch Card\n\nThere will be a cash bar and popcorn available.\n\nDoors open at 6:30 PM\, film starts at 7 PM.
