DESCRIPTION:Their Finest is the 5th of the Cinefest fall series of independent films brought to the Columbia Valley by CV Arts and the Toronto International Film Circuit.\n\nThe Story\n\nLone Scherfig directs this romantic comedy\, 'Their Finest'. Set in Britain’s wartime film industry\, the film features a cast full of the UK’s celebrated comic actors including Bill Nighy and Richard E. Grant. Catrin Cole (Gemma Arterton) is a scriptwriter charged with bringing a female perspective to war films produced by the Ministry of Information’s Film Division. Catrin’s artist husband looks down on her job despite the fact that it is paying the rent.\n\nWhile on location in Devon\, Catrin begins to come into her own when she becomes the only crew person that Ambrose Hilliard (Nighy) – a past-his-prime actor – will talk to and take direction from. The film pops with witty banter and flows with lovely period detail while the characters are textured and the performances nuanced. Nighy is perfectly cast in his endearingly withering role and Jeremy Irons turns up for a welcome cameo.
