SUMMARY:'Maudie' - Cinefest 2017 Fall Program
DESCRIPTION:Maudie is the first of the  Cinefest fall series of independent films brought to the Columbia Valley by CV Arts and the Toronto International Film Circuit.\n\nThe Story\n\n'Maudie' tells the story of the woman who became one of Canada's best-loved folk artists\, Maud Lewis\, played by Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine). Throughout her life\, she suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis and endured her brother's and aunt's treating her as though she were mentally and physically incompetent. The film's director\, Aisling Walsh\, however\, focuses on her optimism and pure grit.\n\nShe met and later married her husband\, Everett Lewis (a young Ethan Hawke) when she was 30 and the pair\n\nSally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine) plays Maud Lewis and a young Ethan Hawke  as her husband Everett Lewis. They lived in a tiny\, one-roomed house with no heat or electricity but Maud livened it up with flowers she painted on every surface  with house paint.\n\nAlthough Maud Lewis was not a trained artist\, her work resonated with people in a big way. After her death\, in 1970\, their home was completely restored and it was moved into the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.\n\nThe film illustrates the role that art  played in Maud's life and portrays a sense of what making art means to the outsider artist.\n\nThere will be a cash bar\, light refreshments and popcorn available.\n\nTickets\n\nTickets for 'Maudie' may be purchased:\n\n \tonline at: https://columbiavalleyarts.com/CVARTS/contact-us/  \n \tat the door\n\nCost:\n\n \tAdults - $12\n \tCV Arts members - $11 (available only at the door\n \tAge 13 and under - $5\n \tAsk for a Punch Card\n\nDoors open at 6:30 PM\, film starts at 7 PM.\n\nFor more information\, contact Jami Scheffer at 250-342-4423
