SUMMARY:Loop the Lake 2018
DESCRIPTION:Loop the Lake is one of summer's most popular events for the folks who live in the Columbia Valley and those who visit. Literally hundreds of enthusiastic folks from all over Canada and as far away as Texas and Great Britain\, both serious recreationists and those who just enjoy a lovely walk in the mountain air\, make their way here each August for the event. This year (2018) will mark the 23rd year for the Invermere Rotary Club's renowned event.\n\nBring the whole family to run in the half marathon\, the 10k or the 5k; there is something for everyone before and after the event!\n\nLoop the Lake is a fundraiser for the local service club's many worthwhile charitable endeavors in the community and in the world. Everyone\, both young and young-at-heart\, is invited to participate. Whichever course you choose\, it's a lot of fun and you get to enjoy some of the most gorgeous scenery ever as you wend your way uphill and down through the neighboring countryside.\n\nSelect the category that best suits you and run\, jog or walk at your own pace and comfort level. Come alone\, come with friends or bring along the whole family and compete for the family award!\n\nWe will keep you posted as this year's details become available.\n\nThe Loop the Lake official website at http://loopthelake.bc.ca has all the details (may not yet be updated for 2018) as well as descriptions of each of the events and online registration. Sign up early on the website by mail\, email or in person\, or on-site the day of the race.\n\nThe event details here are from the 2017 event and subject to change by the organizers.\n\n[su_spoiler title="2017 Event Details" anchor="2016-event-details" class="my-custom-spoiler" style="fancy" open="no"]\n1/2 Marathon Event\nThe half-marathon event starts at the intersection of Highway 93/95 and Kootenay Road #3 at the Skandia office. From there\, the course is an out-and-back loop on the Windermere Loop Road ( about 4 km each way). It presents a healthy challenge for the serious distance runner while still being friendly enough for those who love a good hike around the valley. An early start will allow time enough to complete the course before it gets too hot later in the day. Every kilometer of the route is marked in descending order and there are several strategic locations where washrooms\, water and replacement drinks are available.\n\nStart time is 7:30 am.\n10 km Marathon Event\nThe 10 km event starts near the community hall in Windermere\, winds long scenic roads in Lakeview Meadows\, down the hill and across the bridge in Athalmer\, then through downtown Invermere to its conclusion at Pynelogs Cultural Centre in Kinsmen Park. You will enjoy breathtaking vistas of the Purcell Mountain range and the sparkling waters of Lake Windermere along the route.\n\nStart time is 8:00 am.\n5 km Event\nThe 5 km course begins at Mount Nelson Athletic Park\, then runs south along 15th Avenue\, loops back on 13th Avenue and works its way toward downtown Invermere where it joins up with participants of the other two races and heads down to Pynelogs Cultural Centre and the finish line. Affectionately known as the Octogenarian run\, this event allows participants to choose where they want to start and to walk or run only as far and as fast as is comfortable. it is a wonderful opportunity to get some really good exercise in the sunshine while enjoying the company of friends and neighbors.\n\nStart time is 7:45 am.\n\n[/su_spoiler]\n\n[the_ad_placement id="invermere-in-content"]
