DESCRIPTION:The Kootenay Country Fair is one of the major attractions of the season at Fort Steele each year. You are invited to bring the whole family for the day. Join hundreds of folks for a real old-fashioned down-home country event that's just bursting with all the delicious flavors of the harvest season.\n\nThe gates open just in time for breakfast - a pancake breakfast\, of course. from 9 - 11 am. After all\, isn't that the only way to begin a whole day of great activities planned for you and your family?\n\nThen\, enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch from 11 am to 4 pm\, a Family Dog Show from 12-12:30pm\, childrens' games all afternoon and an auction at the Opera House at 4 pm.\n\nThere’s a bit of everything for everyone at the Kootenay Country Fair. You can expect the usual end-of-summer displays of garden-grown splendor - flowers\, vegetables and fruits – with awards for the finest\, the choicest and the most beautiful entries.\n\nA country fair wouldn’t be complete without fresh-from-the-oven home-baking\, art\, photography and beautiful homemade crafts\, as well as mouthwatering jams\, jellies and pickles. There will be commercial tables\, live animals and\, of course\, scrumptious food. Watch demonstrations and take a horse-drawn wagon ride. Tap your feet to old-time country music.\n\nFor the kids\, the 4H Club will be on site with their animals (and will typically let people pet them)\, lots of really fun games\, face painting and ...\n\n\n\nThe Annual Zucchini 500!\n\nWhat is that?  Well\, kids\, you construct a vehicle from a whole freshly carved  zucchini\, according to the rules. You can decorate it if you like. Then race it down a ramp. There are categories of races\, age groups\, and weight of zucchini.
