SUMMARY:Annual fall Shoreline Clean-up
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_16542" align="alignright" width="300"] Click to view poster[/caption]\n\nIt's fall shoreline cleanup time again and the Lake Windermere Ambassadors are calling for volunteers to tidy up the public shoreline around our lake so it's safe and ready to go for all the great wintertime activities that take place on and around it.\n\nWear comfortable shoes and layer your clothes. Bags and gloves will be provided.\n\nPromptly at 10 AM\, there will be an orientation and kick-off and then teams will be sent off to various locations. At noon\, we will be doing a bag count and litter tally and then there will be a waste-free picnic lunch at the beach\, thanks to the generosity of the Rocky River Grill.\n\nGet your family and friends excited to be a part of this great event - the old saying that "many hands make light work" really is true! You may not think there's much you\, as an individual\, can do to help alleviate the pollution of the world's water systems but -  being a participant in the annual fall shoreline cleanup one thing you can do!\n\n[su_note note_color="#ededd7"]\nDid you know?\nOur Lake Windermere Shore Cleanup is part of a nation-wide event\, presented by Loblaw Companies Limited and led by the Vancouver Aquarium and the Worldwide Wildlife Federation. You will be among the tens of thousands of Canadians  participating in one of the largest direct action environmental programs in Canada and the third largest cleanup in the world!\n\nHere are some stats from the 2015 cleanup event:\n\n[su_list icon="icon: arrow-right" icon_color="#f69d01"]\n\n \tnumber of sites cleaned up - 2\,016\n \ttotal shoreline distance cleaned - 3\,211km\n \tnumber of bags filled - 15\,776\n \ttotal weight of the bags - 175\,932 kg\n \tnumber of participants - 59\,136\n\n[/su_list]\n\nAnd look at what they found! (these are just the most prevalent)\n\n[su_list icon="icon: arrow-right" icon_color="#f69d01"]\n\n \t409\,417 cigarette butts\n \t93\,129 food wrappers\n \t50\,904 plastic bottle caps\n \t37\,769 plastic beverage bottles\n \t27\,814 beverage cans\n \t27\, 110 other plastic and foam items\n \t27\,047 straws and stirrers\n \t25\,047 other plastic bags\n \t22\,093 metal bottle caps\n \t20\,492 plastic grocery bags\n \t19\,365 plastic lids\n \t17\,819 paper cups and plates\n\n[/su_list]\n\nNow\, granted\, these are national stats but we can do our best to keep our own shores clean and safe for those who use our beaches and healthy and safe for the aquatic species that call Lake Windermere home.\n\n[/su_note]\n\n[su_divider divider_color="#a55006" size="5" top="no" margin="20"]\n\nShare this with your friends!
