SUMMARY:'Churchill' - Cinefest 2017 Fall Program
DESCRIPTION:Churchill is the 3rd of the Cinefest fall series of independent films brought to the Columbia Valley by CV Arts and the Toronto International Film Circuit.\n\n'Churchill' chronicles the days before the D-Day landing. Haunted by memories of Gallipoli and World War I\, Winston Churchill (Brian Cox) finds himself the sole opponent of the Allied invasion. Facing resistance from General Dwight Eisenhower (John Slatterly) and the commander of the Allied troops\, Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery (Julian Wadham)\, Churchill tries to impress upon King George VI (James Purefoy) the risk of sending thousands of men onto a beach with inadequate preparation.\n\nAs he finds himself stymied by men who favour action over contemplation\, Churchill leans on his wife\, Clementine (Miranda Richardson). Realizing that her husband is in danger of unraveling\, Clementine cuts through his bluster to tell him what he needs to hear.\n\nRather than portraying its titular character as an infallible legend of honor Churchill takes a more nuanced look at how the burden falls upon those who are responsible for making decisions off the battlefield. A moving depiction of the ways in which war takes its toll on every citizen\, the film provides a human illustration of a legendary man.\n\nUnited Kingdom\, 2017\n105 minutes\nEnglish\nPG\n\n(text courtesy of Columbia Valley Arts Council)\n\nTickets:\n\nTickets for 'Maudie' may be purchased:\n\n \tonline at: https://columbiavalleyarts.com/CVARTS/contact-us/\n \tat the door\n\nCost:\n\nAdults - $12\nCV Arts members - $11 (available only at the door\nAge 13 and under - $5\nAsk for a Punch Card\n\nCash Bar & popcorn available.\n\nDoors open at 6:30 PM\, film starts at 7 PM.\n\nFor more information\, contact Jami Scheffer at 250-342-4423
