SUMMARY:The Bookshop - Cinefest at Pynelogs
DESCRIPTION:The Bookshop\, a film by Isabel Coixet\, launches CV Arts 2018-2019 Cinefest independent film series at Pynelogs.\n\nBased on Penelope Fitzgerald's eponymous\, Booker-prize nominated novel from 1978\, The Bookshop acts as a love letter to literature and the importance of dreams. Director and screenwriter Isabel Coixet (Learning to Drive) helms an adaptation that is brimming with colour\, wit and charm.\n\nA town that lacks a bookshop isn't always a town that wants one. Florence Green (Emily Mortimer – The Sense of an Ending) is a young widow who shocks her rural English town by turning an old\, weathered house into a bookshop. She faces vehement opposition from the town\, especially from queen busy-body Violet Gamart (Patricia Clarkson)\, but finds an unlikely supporter in Edmund Brundish (Bill Nighy (Their Finest)\, a bookish local recluse who takes up her cause. When the battle lines are drawn\, the fight moves beyond the shop to touch on sociopolitical values and class barriers facing the residents of the town in 1950s England.\n\nAs independent bookstores face competition from corporate giants and the arts continue to prove themselves a force of change\, The Bookshop is as timely today as ever. You won't want to miss this wistful ode to the power of a good book.\n\n“The Bookshop's subversive undercurrent\, embodies in fine performances by Emily Mortimer and Bill Nighy\, is what makes it really interesting.” - Jonathan Holland\, The Hollywood Reporter\n\nUK 2017\, English\, 113 min.\, PG\n\nTickets are available at the door or online at columbiavalleyarts.com. Doors open at 6:30 - film at 7 pm. There will be a cash bar and light refreshments.\n\nFor more information phone 250-342-4423.\n\n[the_ad_placement id="invermere-in-content"]
