The Columbia Valley BC has been a golfer’s playground for more than 40 years. Because of the great weather here on the sunny side of the Rockies, golfers have nearly a month longer on the course than in many other places. RDEK moves forward with LWMP implementation
Following three Open Houses and preliminary discussions with community groups and stakeholders, the Regional District of East Kootenay is moving forward with the next steps in the implementation of the Lake Windermere Management Plan (LWMP).
“The Board has asked staff to draft new regulations for Lake Windermere,” says Area F Director Wendy Booth. “As part of this process, we have also asked for additional public consultation to ensure people have the opportunity to learn about the proposed regulations and share their thoughts and opinions.”

The birds like it here. Annual count finds 52 species.
Seventy four people counted 3,927 individual birds during the 34th annual Lake Windermere District Christmas bird count. The number of birds is up by 47% from last year. Some of the increase can be attributed to high number Bohemian waxwings and common redpolls. The total of 52 species recorded this year matches the average seen during the last 10 years of the count.
Some of this year’s highlights include a new species for the count. Dean and Bill Nicholson observed two trumpeter swans in the open water at Athalmer. They also spotted a lone hooded merganser, which has only been recorded 5 times ...Full story
