Fred Kinsey, who lives in Wilmer, is a licensed heavy-duty mechanic who has been repairing vehicles in the valley since 1977. In 1993, he opened the doors of K-5 Mechanical and since then he, his wife, Wendy, who is the office manager, their eldest son, Richard, a 3rd-year apprentice and dog, Jack, have operated this family business together.
There is just about no automotive repair they are not able to handle in their shop in Invermere’s Industrial Park. They work on front suspensions, air conditioning, exhaust systems, drive lines, engines, electrical systems, transmissions, differentials, wheel alignments, flat repairs, rotations, and more.
The shop has 3 hoists, fully computerized scanning and diagnostic tools and electronic equipment to repair even the most complex problems. They work on both imports and domestic vehicles (except for European makes), 4WD’s and pickups. Being a heavy-duty mechanic gives Fred the ability and the know-how to work on snowplows, winches, lift decks and power tailgates as well. Shop information and work orders are managed electronically, keeping the business running smoothly and efficiently.
K-5 Mechanical has recently expanded the business with a TreadPro Tire Services system. They now carry BF Goodrich, Yokohama, Hankook, Cooper, Dean, Continental and General tires, as well as rims and commercial truck tires. With the tires, K-5 will sell the TreadPro Assurance program which gives the purchaser roadside hazard on all tires for puncture, lifetime mounting and balancing and rotation of tires at any of the more than 30 dealers in BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The company has had a steady base of satisfied customers since 1993. They offer competitive rates, good maintenance and excellent service, free pick-up and delivery of vehicles anywhere between Radium and Fairmont. They usually bring on an extra licensed mechanic during the busiest months of the year. They are open six days a week in the summer and five days a week in slower times.
