Oct 1, Invermere –
With their motto “Bring the Blues to Your Town, no venue too big, too small, too grand or too humble”, two of our very favorite blues personalities, Doc MacLean and Big Dave McLean, will be rolling into Invermere on Saturday, October 1, 2011, as part of the sixth annual version of their National Steel Blues Tour which they are calling the ‘Bad Boys’ Blues Tour.
Hauling their own gear, the pair of roots ‘n’ blues veterans, in a battered 1994 Lincoln Town Car with speakers mounted on the roof, will be cruising 30,000 km across the country, doing 65 shows in 9 provinces, 20 of them in British Columbia.
Their show features songs and stories in the round, performed on vintage National guitars, an all-acoustic event that has long been known as “Canada’s biggest little blues and roots tour”. Past performances have been featured on CBC Radio’s Concert on Demand, Canada Live, and Saturday Night Blues.
Big Dave McLean is a Stony Plain recording artist who has been at the center of Canadian blues for most of his forty-year career. A favorite of fans and critics alike, he has an extensive list of Juno, Maple, and WCMA awards and nominations to his credit. He’s definitely Muddy’s Boy, his own man, and ‘the Prince of the Prairies.’
Doc MacLean’s a blues vagabond writing from the dark side of the blues highway. He’s spent the last forty years exploring the road atlas from A to Z — surfacing sometimes on big stages in fancy halls, sometimes streetside trolling for change and a meal. No managers, agents, record companies. No fancy new guitars. He’s a traveler, a collector and teller of songs and stories — a songster in the blues tradition. Blues Revue magazine has called him “the Prince of Darkness.”
The show starts at Strand’s at 8pm. Seating is limited so phone or fax early for reservations.
