Each year in early August, hundreds of both serious competitors and those who just enjoy a leisurely Sunday walk in the great outdoors, come from all over Canada and as far away as Texas and even Great Britain to participate in the Invermere Rotary Club’s annual Loop the Lake event. It is a fundraiser for the service club’s many worthwhile charitable endeavors in the community and everyone -– young and not so young -– is invited to participate.

Select the category that best suits you and run, jog or walk at your own pace and comfort level. Come alone, come with friends or bring along the whole family and compete for the family award!

The half-marathon (21.2 km) event takes in parts of Windermere and joins the 10 km route, ending at Pynelogs in Invermere. It presents a healthy challenge for the serious distance runner while still being friendly enough for those who love a good hike around the valley. An early start will allow time enough to complete the course before it gets too hot later in the day. Every kilometer of the route is marked in descending order and there are several strategic locations where washrooms, water and replacement drinks are available.

The 10km marathon winds its way uphill and down from Windermere to Invermere, offering scenic views of the spectacular Purcell Mountain range and beautiful Lake Windermere along the way.

The Octogenarian category allows participants to choose where they want to start and walk or run only as far and as fast as is comfortable. This event is an opportunity to get some really good exercise in the sunshine while enjoying the company of friends and neighbors.

The Loop the Lake official website at http://www.loopthelake.bc.ca has all the details as well as descriptions of each of the events and online registration.
