Kids in the Columbia Valley are getting the chance to try freestyle at Panorama Mountain Resort during spring break as part of a program that is making connections with local schools and communities in British Columbia.
Olympic skier and 2011 World Championship bronze medallist, Kristi Richards, visited, via interactive video conferencing sessions, nine schools across the province to promote freestyle skiing — one of them being Windermere Elementary School.
Thanks to BC Freestyle, not only schools but also local ski hills, are connecting with the program to introduce freestyle skiing to hundreds of youngsters with a program called Try Freestyle. Certified freestyle coaches will be brought to the ski hills to run half-day sessions for young skiers, giving them a start just like Kristi.
Diane Vaykovich, President of the BC Freestyle Ski Association, is excited about the overall program. “I have been thrilled with the energies we are creating with ActNow BC, the schools, our freestyle clubs and Kristi Richards, herself,” she says. “Try Freestyle will allow more young skiers to enjoy the thrill of freestyle skiing.”
Interested kids in the Columbia Valley area are invited to join the Try Freestyle event at Panorama on March 20th. If you know basic ski fundamentals, you will love it. And kids who sign up online will ‘Try Freestyle’ free! To find out more and to sign up, visit http://www.bcfreestyle.com and click on “Try Freestyle”.
