Sep 17-18, Radium Hot Springs –

Classic car enthusiasts are gearing up for the 21st Annual Columbia Valley Classics Autumn Show and Shine to take place Saturday, September 18th, 2010 at the Springs Golf Course Driving Range in Radium Hot Springs, BC.

The warm-up to this year’s event will be Music in the Park on Friday evening from 6-9pm at the Radium Ball Park. Enjoy the music of the Surf Dragons as you sip a cool drink at the beer garden, hosted by the local Rotary Club.

From 7-9pm, registration will be at the Seniors’ Hall next to the park. If you miss the early registration, don’t worry, you can still register Saturday morning at the car show.

Saturday morning from 7-10am, breakfast will be served by the Radium Fire Department at the Senior’s Hall. Pancakes and all the trimmings are a great way to start the day and the cost is $5 per person.

The show starts at 10am and runs until 4pm. More than 1,000 classic cars and trucks of all sizes and makes are expected to show off their shine at the driving range. Over the years, more than 2,300 different vehicles from far and wide have taken part in the extravaganza, a testimony to the popularity of event.

Promptly at 4pm, there will be a ‘Cruise to Invermere’, beginning in Radium and following Hwy. 93/95 south. For the parade watchers who want a good spot to view the cars, here’s the route:

  • The cars turn right at Sobey’s in Invermere (the first light at the top of the hill on Main Street, officially called 7th Avenue)
  • Left onto 10th Avenue
  • Left again at 13th Street
  • Left onto Main Street and back to the highway.

The parade is not a car club-sanctioned event because of insurance limitations. There will be a police presence and zero tolerance.

A dance at the Invermere Curling Club will put a spectacular finish to a great weekend. From 8pm-1am, the public is invited to dance to the music of the 50s/60s band, Fender Bender, out of Calgary. The cost is $20 per person. Snacks will be served and the proceeds of the evening will go to the Columbia Valley Rockies Hockey Club. There will be a free bus ride to and from Radium. Tickets are limited so get yours early.
